first_img Tags: Kashley Carter/Mealii Enos/Megan Bartholomew/Sydney Jacobs/Utah State Student-Athletes Written by FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailLOGAN, Utah-Tuesday, the Mountain West Conference announced its 2017-18 scholar athlete award recipients and Utah State led the league with 115 recipients within their various athletic programs.Among these was former Juab High star athlete, junior Kashley Carter, who obtained a perfect 4.0 GPA while competing for the Aggies’ women’s cross country team.The Mountain West Scholar-Athlete award is considered one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference.For student-athletes to be eligible for this distinction, they must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution while also maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better and participated in varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport.Among USU’s individual athletic programs, women’s track and field had the most recipients as 28 Aggies competing in this sport obtained that honor.The Aggies also had the most athletes honored in the Mountain West in five sports. In addition to women’s track and field, these sports were women’s soccer (17), women’s cross country (16), men’s track and field (13) and men’s basketball (2).In addition to Carter, three other Aggies student-athletes also obtained a 4.0 GPA.These included freshman women’s cross country runner Megan Bartholomew of Lehi, Utah, sophomore women’s cross country runner Sydney Jacobs of Orem, Utah and sophomore women’s soccer player Mealii Enos of Highlands Ranch, Colo.
