Houston-based engineering services company Oceaneering International has secured contracts from Baker Hughes to supply subsea umbilical control systems for KG-DWN 98/2 project in the Bay of Bengal.KG‑DWN 98/2 is a deepwater field development of Oil & Natural Gas Corporation of India (ONGC). In April 2018, ONGC kicked off the $5.07bn KG-DWN-98/2 project in the Krishna Godavari basin off the east coast of India by spudding the first of the planned 34 subsea wells. The scope of Oceaneering’s contract includes the subsea umbilical control systems to allow the production of gas from fields U and R, and oil from fields A, P, and M.The contract comprises design and manufacture of 44 electro-hydraulic control umbilicals, adding up to nearly 118km in length, delivered on a combination of reels and carousels. The manufacturing of the umbilicals is expected to take place at the company’s facility in Rosyth, Scotland. It is slated to begin in the third quarter of 2019 and be completed in the first quarter of 2021.Oceaneering president and CEO Rod Larson said: “Securing these significant awards is gratifying, and we are pleased with our status as a preferred provider of umbilical systems to the consortium through BHGE. We look forward to participation in forthcoming projects in the Bay of Bengal region, where deepwater opportunities hold vast potential for the region’s energy needs.”Oceaneering secured separate contract in March 2019In March 2019, the Houston-based engineering services company was granted separate contract to supply a subsea, steel tube control umbilical and associated hardware to facilitate early gas delivery for the project, which is anticipated in fourth quarter 2019.The manufacturing of the umbilical measures 13.2km and associated hardware is currently being done at Oceaneering’s facility in Panama City, Florida. In June, Oceaneering had secured a contract to supply umbilicals and distribution hardware for LNG project in Mozambique.Oceaneering is a provider of engineered services and products, primarily to the offshore energy industry.
