Last weekend marked the annual Newport Folk Festival, bringing a bastion of talented artists to the esteemed festival in Newport, RI. While Bob Dylan used the festival as a breaking ground for his new electric set, singer/songwriter Ryan Adams did the opposite, enlisting The Infamous Stringdusters and Nicki Bluhm for a bluegrass-inspired performance. The seven musicians sat in a semi-circle on stage, giving the show a “down home” vibe, and opened their set with a cover of Slayer’s “South of Heaven.”The show saw Adams improvising a song based on a phrase he thought he heard from the crowd, “I’m Frightened And I’m Rabid.” He ended the set with another cover, this one of “The Wizard” by Black Sabbath. Thanks to NPR Music, we have full audio to share of this wonderful performance. Tune in below!
