Clayberg Wins Drake’s Second-Consecutive PFL Defensive Player of the Week Honor

first_imgDrake University fifth-year senior Nathan Clayberg (Pella, Iowa) has been named the Pioneer Football League’s Defensive Player of the Week after leading another stellar defensive outing by the PFL’s top defense Saturday. On the season, Drake ranks eighth in the nation in total defense and 15th in scoring defense. In Saturday’s 36-6 win over Butler at Drake Stadium, Clayberg captained a defensive effort that shut out Butler for nearly 53 minutes and allowed just 253 yards of total offense. The Bulldog defense accomplished that despite being on the field for nearly 40 minutes of the contest as Butler ran 33 more offensive snaps than Drake.  Drake’s defense and the entire team will test their mettle again next weekend at Drake Stadium, where the team has won 33 of its last 37 PFL home games, when it welcomes Stetson to Des Moines. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Print Friendly Version Clayberg made five tackles, including four solo stops and had two tackles for loss with a sack as well. His presence in the Butler backfield limited Butler to a season-low 134 yards passing. center_img In two PFL games, Drake’s defense has only allowed 15 total points and an average of 235.5 yards per game to easily lead the league in both categories. The honor marks the second-consecutive week a Bulldog has earned the award. Last week, Kieran Severa (Lawrence, Kan.) earned the award following the team’s win at Jacksonville.
