The Bulldogs and other teams endured a long day of play indoors and outdoors at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex as wet weather this morning pushed back start times and conditions were cold and windy for the outdoor matches. IOWA CITY, Iowa – Freshman Daria Walczak of the Drake University women’s tennis team advanced to the main draw singles with a pair of victories Friday, Oct. 12 on the opening day of the ITA Central Regional Championships hosted by the University of Iowa. Play resumes Saturday morning with Petushkova and Walczak set to compete in the main draw singles while Haleas will play a consolation singles match. Walczak followed that initial win with another, the second coming against Creighton’s Henne 6-1, 6-2 to move to Saturday’s main draw. Neville and Palumbo dropped their second matches to South Dakota’s Aly 6-2, 6-2 and a close three-set decision to Bradley’s Barbery 1-6, 6-4, 10-5, respectively.
