Google Pixel 3 Lite, Pixel 3 XL Lite: No notch, 3.5mm headphone jack and everything else we know

first_imgLast week, the world of leaks and rumours was going gaga with new information regarding two new phones from Google – Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite. Tipsters have been mining new information related to the affordable versions of Google’s flagship 2018 Pixel 3 smartphones. We have already seen prototypes of the concerned devices in the wild, with high-resolution 3D renders of the phones coming out later to leave no scope for imagination in our minds. But why is the Pixel 3 Lite so important for fans of Google? If you remember, when the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were announced two months ago, consumers had been expecting a lower and more affordable price. It was expected that Google could be looking to make a statement against its pricier rivals with its benchmark cameras and an unparalleled stock Android experience. However, Google did put a hefty price tag on the Pixel 3 models, with the base version starting at Rs 71,000 in India, making it out of reach for most of its fans. Add to that an overall superior package that its rivals have been offering and Google was required to do a smartphone that could start filling up the cash registers.Hence, when the rumours for a midrange Pixel 3 was doing rounds earlier in the year, fans have been looking forward to a phone that offers the trademark Pixel user experience without hurting their wallets. With the intensity of the leaks increasing day-by-day, it seems that we could possibly see the Lite series at the CES 2019. So here’s a roundup of all that we know about the Pixel 3 Lite series.advertisementPixel 3 LiteThe Pixel 3 Lite is the most interesting of the two Lite models as it is expected to be the one that marks the entry into the exclusive Pixel club. We have already been through the leaks and have covered a fair idea of what to expect from this one. Starting with the build, the Pixel 3 Lite looks extremely familiar to the Pixel 3 with its thick bezels on the top and bottom. It certainly doesn’t look the most modern one but the trademark Pixel design cues are present all over. The front is expected to house a 5.5-inch display, with the type of the panel yet unspecified. There’s a single speaker visible on top acting as an earpiece, with the loudspeaker sitting on the side frame. The funky colour theme of the Pixel series is maintained, with the coloured lock button on the white variant and the presence of a dual tone finish confirming the same. However, the all-glass rear panel has been swapped for a polycarbonate back, which could be due to cost-cutting measures. The fingerprint sensor remains at the back and so does the single rear camera accompanied with an LED flash. The front camera, however, loses out the wide-angle sensor from the Pixel 3.What’s surprising is that Google will retain the 3.5mm headphone jack on the Pixel 3 Lite – a feature that was dropped from the series since last year’s Pixel 2. The Pixel 3 is speculated to sport Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 670 SoC with 4GB RAM as standard. There will be two storage variants – 32GB and 64GB. Google’s Android 9 Pie with Pixel launcher is expected to look after the errands. A 2915mAh battery is expected to keep the Pixel 3 Lite. It will be interesting to see how well Google optimizes the Pixel 3 so as to extract at least a day’s backup from the relatively small battery, considering the power-hungry nature of Android. As of now, the 3D renders suggest two colour variants – Clearly White and Just Black.Pixel 3 XL LiteIf you assumed that Google will only offer its cheaper Pixel with a small display, then you will be excited to know that the larger XL variant will also get a Lite variant. There isn’t much information about this model, except for the fact that there will be a larger 6-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 and render image sin Full HD+ resolution. The Pixel 3 Xl Lite will be mostly identical to the Pixel 3 Lite externally, which means there won’t be a huge display notch. However, the Pixel 3 XL Lite is speculated to get a more powerful Snapdragon 710 SoC instead of the Snapdragon 670.What we expect ahead As stated, with the number of leaks intensifying, we could expect Google to unveil the new Lite phones at CES 2019 scheduled to be held in January 2019. While it’s too early to determine the prices, we expect Google to place them competitively in the market against the likes of OnePlus 6T, Samsung’s Galaxy A series phones and some the older versions of Apple’s iPhones, primarily targeting the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8.advertisementALSO READ | Redmi 6A gets permanent price cut in India, will sell for Rs 5,999 starting Dec 13ALSO READ | Googling idiot shows Trump, Google CEO Sundar Pichai explains whyALSO READ | The ‘Frankenphone’ made the Pixel 3’s Portrait Mode incrediblelast_img
